From my personal experience, my Dalmation and I were on a walk one night when we were attacked by 3 Pit Bulls. He engaged them readily and I released his leash so he wouldn’t be hindered. When it was all said and done, the 3 Pits ran home tore up and bloody (they belonged to a neighbor). My Dalmation was bloody as well so I took him quickly home to check and treat the damage. He was in high spirits strutting and prancing. I cleaned him up and thoroughly checked him over. Not a scratch! Every drop of blood was from the Pits. I went to the neighbor’s to check on his dogs. I found him and his wife in the middle of the living room floor with blood all over the place with first aid supplies scattered about. One of the 3 unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. He successfully defended my 2 sons from attacks by 2 dogs and a person. Another neighbor had a black Chow that was known for tearing up neighbor’s dogs and cats. He attacked one night and ended up with a broken hip and sprained neck. I will say that he generally wasn’t friendly with people outside of our immediate family. He wasn’t aggressive with anyone unless pushed but he would bite. He was loyal, VERY protective of his family, and adored the cat and Sheltie we had as well. When the Sheltie passed at 18, he mourned pathetically for weeks. In conclusion, I would throw my vote to the Dalmation.
