As with children Damn right I am a New York Mets Fan now and forever shirt . cats do much better with discouraging bad behaviours and rewarding good. They are not obstructive creatures but they know what they want and will respond badly to unnecessary controlling behaviour from their parents. With kittens, try and get them to let you gently touch and hold their paws and tail as this will build trust and make it easier for you to clip claws or do anything medical to those areas. Trust is everything to your kitty child- So!! never ever force your cat to do anything that is not for their own best interests. On occasions I have had to push my girl gently into her carrier for a vet trip. I talk to her all the I will do this time gently and reward her with a treat once she’s in. We don’t have problems with scratching furniture as she has scratchy things in most rooms so can be with us and stretch her muscles at the same time. I respond to her meows because they are usually for companionship, food or to open the door I need to go out!! I talk to her a lot and never restrict her space or pick her up unless I have to. This was a highly anxious and hyper vigilant 7 month old kitten from a rescue where she had been confined to a cage for 4 months following extensive leg and foot surgery, so it was a struggle to bring her into the civilised world but absolutely so worth it. Don’t look for obedience- look for a willing loving friend.
